ZF has detailed the features and benefits of its Scalar electronic braking performance monitoring system (EBPMS), which it says provides continuous monitoring without interrupting operations, while helping fleet operators comply with DVSA standards.

“By providing real-time data on braking efficiency, Scalar’s advanced EBPMS helps to simplify life for fleet operators,” said ZF.

“It can create detailed braking reports, keep historical data for up to 36 months and send alerts if potential issues arise. This helps ensure the vehicle stays compliant with safety regulations, reducing the need for frequent tests and avoiding costly penalties.”

EBPMS isn’t only relevant for the UK, says ZF.

“Across Europe, fleets are also embracing EBPMS to enhance efficiency, safety and compliance, while reducing downtime and maintenance costs,” the company continued.

“EBPMS works by tracking braking performance on commercial trailers using sensors that measure speed, pressure, axle load and road gradient. It processes this information to give a clear picture of braking capacity over time.

“With real-time updates, EBPMS helps operators foresee maintenance needs, boost performance and improve safety, by enabling them to tackle issues before they become major problems.”

Scalar’s advanced capabilities provide even more detailed data and advanced analytics compared to a standard EBPMS, says ZF.

“By adding extra metrics, Scalar offers a deeper understanding of braking performance, giving fleet managers the most accurate and actionable data needed for better decision-making and fleet management.

“By offering thorough monitoring and analysis of braking performance, it helps keep vehicles safe, efficient and compliant with all regulations. For fleet managers, adopting Scalar means improved vehicle performance, lower maintenance costs and less downtime.”
