Improved direct vision with Truck Door Windows
Kerb view window installer Truck Door Windows has outlined the safety and compliance benefits of its technology in increasing visibility of vulnerable road users (VRUs) from the truck cab.
The company points out that providing drivers with a larger field of view has the potential to cut the number of incidents, and says it may be the case that direct vision through the side door has the most benefit at slow driving speeds when there is a VRU moving alongside in a fixed position relative to the HGV.
Installation of kerb view windows on HGVs began in Japan during the 1970s, says the firm, as accidents involving VRUs had become a major social issue.
Truck Door Windows’ product features a single glaze, OEM quality, type approved glass bonded for security and strength, which prevents condensation and eliminates dirt ingress. There is no window mechanism obstructing the view, or requirement to remove the door panel for cleaning, the firm adds – while a two-year warranty covers installation and product defects.
The company offers a 48-hour turnaround, or four to five weeks for reactive/bespoke designs, and can operate a like-for-like door exchange programme by arrangement. A courtesy vehicle is available for collection and delivery of back-to-back conversions. Solutions are available for both left and right-hand models.
Keith Banks, business development manager for Truck Door Windows, said: “We are seeing a steady stream of business from companies who are proactive in their passive safety policy or will be operating within the DVS/TfL Progressive Safe System’s defined area which is very similar to the current Low Emission Zone (LEZ).
“Our products continue to feature heavily across all trucking disciplines and offer an opportunity post production to enable an OEM standard retrofit solution for blind spot eliminating nearside lower door window inclusion.”
