Fluid transfer solutions specialist Hytek has recently helped Clock House Farm, a leading grower and supplier of fresh fruit to major UK supermarkets, to transform its fuel management operation.

Clock House Farm manages a substantial fleet of vehicles to support its operations. With a need for efficient fuel management, the company aimed to take control of its fuel usage, as well as to enhance its understanding of fuel consumption across the fleet.

For many years, Clock House Farm’s team depended on local fuel stations to keep its fleet of 119 vehicles running. While this arrangement was initially convenient, it presented challenges as the fleet grew and fuel costs steadily increased.

The management team recognised the need for a more efficient and cost-effective approach, thereby giving them greater control over fuel usage and spending.

Additionally, they wanted a system that would provide detailed insights into fuel consumption across the entire fleet, helping them identify areas for optimisation. Driven by these goals, they turned to the Fuel Tank Shop for assistance in designing a customised on-site refuelling solution that would meet their operational needs, as well as supporting more sustainable fuel management practices.

“Working in partnership with our friends at the Fuel Tank Shop, we provided the additional components required to fully equip Clock House Farm’s new on-site fuelling station,” said Hytek.

The key elements of the solution included a 20,000-litre bunded diesel tank, designed by the Fuel Tank Shop, featuring a secure fuel cabinet and roller shutter door for safety and convenience, and a Hytek Tecalemit Pump with integrated fuel management system (FMS).

“Our recommended HDAMCK model dispenses diesel and HVO at 50 litres per minute with an accuracy of +/-0.5 per cent, essential for reliable data when connected to an FMS,” said Hytek.

“The FMS includes a tag and pin code setup, providing an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorised access…

“Eliminating the need for manual USB downloads, the GSM modem provides automated updates on refuelling data, with the first year’s hosting and SIM costs included.”

Meanwhile, a four-metre dispensing hose allows flexible refuelling positions, while an automatic shut-off nozzle prevents spills by stopping fuel flow when the tank is full.

A filter on the dispensing side removes water and particles down to 10 microns, ensuring fuel cleanliness and preventing contamination of vehicle tanks. A tank level probe provides accurate level readings (+/-0.5 per cent), with configurable alerts for high, low, and reorder levels. Notifications can be sent via email to the team and fuel supplier for timely refills.

With their new on-site fuel management system, Clock House Farm now has complete control over their fuel resources,” said Hytek.

“Because the integrated pumps and FMS allow them to monitor fuel consumption in real-time, it provides valuable insights into usage by individual vehicles. So, this data-driven approach helps them make informed decisions, optimise fuel usage, and reduce operational costs.

Fuel management systems are essential for businesses that rely on large fleets, as they provide critical control over fuel usage, helping to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and prevent fuel theft.

“By tracking fuel consumption in real time, these systems offer insights into fuel efficiency, allowing businesses to make informed decisions about vehicle performance, maintenance needs, and operational strategies.

“Additionally, fuel management systems enhance security by regulating access to fuel and tracking every transaction, ensuring accountability across the fleet. In a time when fuel costs are volatile, effective fuel management is not only financially beneficial but also a step towards sustainable and responsible business practices.”
