Allison Transmission has introduced a package incorporating five-year extended warranty coverage on its 2500 xFE and 3000 xFE fully automatic transmission models destined for food waste collection vehicles in the UK.

The move responds to the UK government’s incoming ‘Simpler Recycling’ legislation for England, which introduces significant changes to waste collection practices. These include the mandating of weekly separate food waste collections which has been estimated to result in the specification and procurement of 2,000 new vehicles across local authorities and waste management companies in England.

Allison’s fully automatic transmissions are widely specified in the British refuse collection vehicle (RCV) market, including vehicles specially designed for food waste. They are said to be ideal for smaller, lighter vehicles collecting lower volumes of waste more frequently and manoeuvring on often narrow, congested streets.

They are built to handle the tough, stop-and-go nature of food waste collection and are quieter in operation, says Allison – and with drivers able to have both hands on the steering wheel, help improve concentration and reduce fatigue.

Offering Allison Extended Coverage on the 2500 xFE and 3000 xFE transmissions most commonly specified in the 12 to 16 tonne gross vehicle weight (GVW) categories is designed to allow customers to continue to enjoy the benefits of Allison fully automatic transmissions.

The 2500 xFE and 3000 xFE feature Allison’s xFE (for extra Fuel Economy) technology, which returned a 4.8 percent fuel saving over the standard transmission in a study of two Dennis Eagle Elite 26-tonne trucks operated by Biffa on commercial waste collection duties.

In addition to Allison’s Extended Coverage which includes 100 per cent parts and labour as well as vehicle recovery, the transmissions benefit from extended drain intervals by using approved fully synthetic fluids, TES668 and TES295.
