Dennis Eagle enhances efficiency with Allison xFE transmissions

Refuse collection vehicle manufacturer Dennis Eagle will specify xFE fully automatic transmissions from vehicle propulsion specialist Allison Transmission on its two and three-axle Elite+ chassis, it has been announced.

The Allison xFE (for extra Fuel Economy) transmission features FuelSense 2.0 Max, described as an innovative technology package designed to help customers maximise vehicle performance and efficiency.

This will see Dennis Eagle customers in domestic and export markets benefit from fuel savings of up to six per cent against the demanding duty-cycles and stop-start nature of refuse collection applications compared to transmission without the xFE technology, says Allison Transmission.

One of the enabling features of FuelSense 2.0 Max is DynActive Shifting, which uses an algorithm to choose the most efficient shift points from an infinite number of combinations based on customer specifications and engine fuel map, as well as vehicle and environmental parameters.

Neutral at Stop reduces the load on the engine during low-speed coasting, as well as when the vehicle is stationary, for further fuel savings. In addition, enhanced Acceleration Rate Management helps to mitigate aggressive driving by automatically controlling engine torque, with five levels of control.
