Prometeon refines HGV range with R02 Proway

Tyre provider Prometeon has highlighted the operational benefits of its R02 Proway truck tyres.

For HGV fleet managers, tyre choice is rarely about innovation for its own sake, says the company: reliability, tyre performance and predictable costs matter far more than headline claims.

“Prometeon’s R02 Proway has been developed with these priorities in mind, targeting the mixed demands of regional and long-haul work fleets across UK,” it said.

“First seen in the UK at last year’s Road Transport Expo, the R02 Proway replaces Prometeon’s previous generation with a series of focused refinements rather than a complete rethink. The aim is straightforward: deliver incremental improvements that translate into fewer tyre changes, more stable vehicle behaviour and improved cost control over the tyre’s working life.”

Prometeon reports improvements of up to 10 per cent in key areas such as mileage, wet handling and traction in wintry conditions.

“For operators running high motorway mileages alongside urban delivery work, the real value lies in more even wear and longer service intervals, helping reduce downtime and unplanned replacements.

“A new tread compound is designed to manage heat build-up more effectively, supporting lower rolling resistance and improved fuel efficiency without compromising wet-road grip. Combined with an optimised footprint design, this helps maintain consistent contact with the road surface, particularly important on heavily trafficked UK routes.”

Wet braking performance is a critical consideration for UK HGV fleets, says Prometeon, given year-round rainfall and frequent stop-start driving. The company places strong emphasis on wet handling and braking stability throughout the tyre’s life, rather than peak performance when new.

“The R02 Proway carries full 3PMSF certification across the range, providing genuine all-season capability. For many fleets, this reduces the need for seasonal tyre changes, simplifying logistics while maintaining compliance and traction during colder months.

“Available in both steer and drive axle variants, the R02 Proway covers core fleet sizes including 315/60R22.5, 315/70R22.5, 315/80R22.5 and 295/80R22.5. Load capacity has been increased in selected sizes, reaching up to 158/150L in the 315/70R22.5 and 315/80R22.5, supporting heavier loads.

“A four-belt construction underlines the tyre’s durability focus, helping it withstand sustained motorway speeds and mixed-duty cycles typical of UK haulage operations.”

RFID technology is fitted as standard, supporting tyre tracking and inspection routines increasingly used by larger fleets. This allows for more accurate lifecycle monitoring and better integration with digital tyre management systems, says Prometeon.

“Retreadability also remains a key part of the proposition. Built using Prometeon’s latest casing technology, the R02 Proway is designed to support multiple lives, helping fleets reduce cost per mile while supporting sustainability targets.”

The tyre specialist concluded: “Rather than chasing extreme performance gains, the R02 Proway takes a measured approach. For regional and long-haul HGV fleets, it offers practical improvements in mileage, consistency and year-round usability – areas that have the greatest impact on operational efficiency and total cost of ownership.”
