Brigade launches free fleet reviews for AI safety tech upgrades
Brigade’s new AI HFR Box allows operators to upgrade rather than replace equipment
Vehicle safety specialist Brigade Electronics has launched a free, no-obligation fleet review to help operators understand how they can upgrade existing vehicle camera systems to AI-powered Human Form Recognition (HFR) detection technology without automatically replacing cameras, monitors and wiring.
The consultation is designed for operators who want to improve vehicle safety and take advantage of advances in AI technology, but may be concerned about the cost, complexity and operational disruption associated with replacing complete camera systems across a fleet.
Following the review, Brigade will provide operators with a fully specified, costed upgrade plan based on their existing fleet and camera equipment, with no obligation to proceed.
At the heart of the initiative is Brigade’s AI Box, an inline retrofit solution that adds HFR capability to compatible existing analogue camera systems.
Rather than requiring operators to remove functioning cameras and associated hardware, AI Box connects to the cameras, monitors and wiring already installed on the vehicle. This enables fleets to introduce AI-powered detection while retaining compatible equipment in which they have already invested.
More than 2,400 vehicles have already been upgraded using the technology. Unlike traditional motion-based detection, HFR technology is designed to distinguish pedestrians and other vulnerable road users from surrounding objects and movement. This means drivers can be alerted when a person enters a defined detection zone, while unnecessary warnings triggered by objects such as branches, bollards, shadows or passing traffic can be reduced.
By reducing false alerts, says Brigade, the technology can also help address the risk of warning fatigue, where drivers become desensitised to frequent alarms in busy working environments.
Jordan Marshall, Brigade’s UK marketing manager, said: “Many operators recognise the benefits that AI and Human Form Recognition detection tech can bring to fleet safety, but understandably don’t want to discard perfectly serviceable cameras, monitors and wiring simply to access the latest technology or meet a new legislation.
“The purpose of our fleet review is to look at what an operator already has and identify whether there is a practical, cost-effective route to upgrading it.
“There is no obligation to buy anything. We will review the fleet specification and existing camera format and come back with a costed upgrade plan, so the operator can make an informed decision based on what their fleet actually needs.
“For larger fleets in particular, that could make the difference between facing a major replacement programme and being able to introduce HFR technology progressively using much of the equipment already fitted to vehicles.”
Because AI Box integrates with existing compatible systems, installation is said to be significantly quicker than a complete camera replacement. Existing wiring does not need to be removed and re-run, helping minimise vehicle downtime and allowing upgraded vehicles to return to service quickly.
The approach also enables operators to upgrade fleets incrementally rather than committing to wholesale replacement of camera infrastructure in one programme. The technology is suitable for a wide range of vehicles and operating environments, including HGVs, tippers, cement mixers, waste collection vehicles, emergency vehicles, buses, coaches, forklifts, agricultural vehicles and more.
The free fleet review will assess an operator’s existing camera format and fleet requirements before Brigade recommends an appropriate upgrade specification.
