Delegates to the 2017 Microlise Transport Conference will see presentations from two of the most powerful people in British transport law enforcement: Gordon Macdonald, head of enforcement policy at the DVSA, and Beverley Bell, the senior traffic commissioner for Great Britain.

Mr Macdonald will give an update on the DVSA’s new earned recognition initiative which aims to reduce compliance costs and disruption for the best transport service providers.

Mrs Bell, in what will be one of her final public engagements before she relinquishes her role, will deliver an update on the traffic commissioners’ strategic objective of reducing the burden on compliant operators, whilst targeting serially and seriously non-compliant operators and drivers.

Meanwhile the Road Haulage Association (RHA) will deliver a workshop programme entitled ‘Driving Britain’s Future’ at the conference, which will cover a range of key issues affecting fleet operators.

The programme will be led by RHA policy director Jack Semple, and will look at topics including industry image and perception and its impact on the skills shortage, what Brexit will mean for hauliers, and driver health and welfare.

“We are excited to be returning again to the Microlise Transport Conference – a must-attend event for anyone working in haulage and fleet operations,” said Richard Burnett, chief executive of the RHA.

“The conference has become a key date in the industry calendar and our programme will give delegates the opportunity to learn about a wide range of crucial topics at the top of the agenda for industry professionals.”

Other speakers include Dr Rupert Lewis, director of the Government Office for Science, Stewart Osmond, vice president of national corporate practice at Marsh Ltd and Carl Lomas, the chairman of the Institute of Couriers.

A supporting exhibition will see products and services on display from Brigade, RTITB, Scania, SNAP, Knorr-Bremse, Vodafone, Cartwright, MAN, FORS and others.

The Microlise Conference takes place at Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 17 May.
