Aspöck adds value with DVS range
Vehicle technology provider Aspöck offers a wide variety of products to help fleet operators keep vulnerable road users (VRUs) safe, including to comply with London’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS).
The PreView Side Defender II is a side mounted radar which can detect and help mitigate side collisions on the motorway and protect VRUs in the city.
This system can support additional PreView radars to give drivers increased blind spot coverage.
The Side Defender is designed to work at lower speeds and higher speeds. One sensor can detect up to 8m of the vehicle length by itself whereas 6-8 ultrasonic sensors would be required to achieve the same result, the company says.
The Low speed setting is designed for slow urban environments and passenger side turns. The sensor can pick up moving cars and bikes and can even pedestrians. It can even be programmed to ignore stationary objects such as street signs and parked cars.
With the high-speed setting, the sensor can pick up vehicles moving into blind spots on a motorway, and can even alert the driver with a sound in the cab.
Meanwhile, the company’s Reversing Radar system scans the area, and provides peace of mind when reversing into the unknown. The sensor can be integrated to the brake system to provide an automatic brake function when reversing, thereby helping to reduce collisions and protect pedestrians.
These radars are programmable with different parameters to suit all kind of needs, says Aspöck. The system can even be programmed to ignore an object in a certain area of the sensor’s range.
The radar system has been shown to work in extreme conditions such as quarry/mining operations and even in bad weather conditions without fail, says the firm.
Aspöck also supplies camera systems which can be integrated to work with a range of different applications, from rear-view mirror display screens to in cab functions and monitors, all of which help assist the driver in seeing into blind spots.
Another product that the DVS requires to be compliant with the new standard is an Audible Manoeuvring Alarm. Along with night silent alarms, Aspöck can customise these to fleets’ preferences.
