Saferoad and Fastview360 develop Hiab alert system

Road safety solutions provider Saferoad has been collaborating with camera systems specialist Fastview360 to develop a new Hiab alert system for its vehicle fleet.

Saferoad supplies and installs an extensive range of vehicle restraint systems, as well as environmental barriers and various types of general fencing. The key aim is to contribute to a safer life nationwide on the road, and reduce noise from motorway traffic with sound absorptive panels.

The Hiab alert system has been developed to ensure secured stowing of hydraulic arms and legs whilst the vehicle is being driven.

Integrating the existing in-cab alarm system with a Fastview360 camera safety system allows additional notifications to reach the fleet office.

The solution has provided the Saferoad fleet office with notification of any vehicle movements whilst the Hiab crane arm and stabilising legs are not correctly stowed. An alarm in the cab sounds as well, so drivers are aware and can stop to check on the stowing of the lifting equipment.

Improving safety and notifying both drivers and fleet officers of manoeuvres when operating on closed lanes, slip roads and other notoriously dangerous roads is all an effort to reduce the number of collisions in the industry. The camera and tracking system provided by Fastview360 also allows for the Saferoad fleet to be fully compliant with FORS Gold and London’s Direct Vision Standard.

The Hiab alert system combined with Fastview360 camera solutions has also allowed for more thorough driver behaviour reviews, as with each notification, video evidence is available to download remotely.

“We have been very impressed at the speed at which this new alert system was developed and implemented,” said Peter Arthy, senior buyer at Saferoad.

“It has already proved to be invaluable. Working on this with Fastview360 has been very successful and the team there have been amazing. I would highly recommend any company that has Hiab vehicles in their fleet, to utilise this system today.”
