Vehicle combines first-response ambulance and firefighting roles

news_gA lightweight vehicle that combines traditional firefighting and ambulance capabilities is due for launch at the Emergency Services Show, at the NEC from September 23 -24.

The first Terberg Telstar (Terberg Emergency Life-saving Support Tactical Ancillary Rescue) is already in evaluation with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

Based on a five-tonne, Extra-long Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, the vehicle has a fully compliant ambulance section at the rear with self-loading stretchers and medical equipment.

The centre compartment is dedicated to firefighting, and includes a Hale HPX75 pump, a 60-metre hose reel and 500 litres of water, together with breathing apparatus and cutting gear, while the cab can carry up to four crew members.

Terberg DTS managing director Alisdair Couper said other configurations could be engineered to customer requirements.

“By using this collaborative approach, Telstar can save fire brigades a significant amount of money in comparison to the equivalent new fire engine as well as providing full first response ambulance support,” he added.
