Sentinel delivers a decade of safety for Mellor Bus
Safety equipment provider Sentinel Systems is celebrating 10 years of partnership with vehicle manufacturer Mellor Bus, which specialises in low-floor and accessible passenger vehicles.
Operating from its Rochdale production plant with multiple dedicated lines, Mellor delivers a wide range of vehicles for public sector and private operators – from community transport to full-size specialist buses.
Mellor works with operators that demand high standards of safety and reliability. There is a complex procurement process involved in Mellor’s vehicle builds – from chassis arriving from manufacturers such as Mercedes, Fiat, and Iveco, through to body-building and final fit-out.
Sentinel has supplied a wide variety of camera recording systems to Mellor’s vehicles. The systems arrive pre-wired by Sentinel and are fitted by Mellor in-house during the build process, and the Mellor engineers then connect and test the system once all panels are in place.
Because Mellor’s production schedule operates on a tight four-day factory week and a 16-day build cycle, ease of integration and reliability are key, says Sentinel.
“Standardised specification means each vehicle leaves the factory with the same recording capability, reducing variation and simplifying handover to operators,” said the firm.
“Because Sentinel’s wiring is prepared in advance and the fit-up is streamlined, production delays are avoided.
“Mellor’s build team reports virtually no warranty issues or production complaints related to the camera system – meaning fewer after-sales interventions.”
For manufacturers and fleet operators looking to integrate safety and recording systems without disrupting build flow or complicating installation, Sentinel Systems emphasises its ability to offer practical, reliable technology.
Tony White, head of supply chain at Mellor Bus Ltd, commented: “We’ve been working with Sentinel for a long time, and their professionalism really stands out – when the system is ordered, it arrives, it works, and it’s one less thing for me to worry about.
“Our team puts the orders in, and I don’t have to think about the cameras – Sentinel just handles it. That kind of reliability is rare but so important to our business.”
