Dennis Eagle drives up visibility with CrewSense AI
Refuse collection vehicle (RCV) manufacturer Dennis Eagle has introduced CrewSense AI, a real-time behaviour awareness system that can be integrated across its vehicle range.
Designed and developed specifically for the waste industry, the AI-powered camera system monitors activity in critical working areas at the rear of the vehicle. It detects operators working behind the RCV and responds in real time when non-standard actions are identified.
CrewSense AI helps to improve operational behaviours, reduce near-miss incidents, and minimise downtime during daily operations, enhancing crew confidence when working at the rear of the vehicle. The driver is given essential visibility of each crew member’s position within specific working zones at the rear, with different colours highlighting them depending on their proximity to the bin lift.
The bin lift itself is equipped with LED lights that indicate to the crew which working zones they are in. If they are in the red zone for too long an audible warning is given, as well as a red light, and the vehicle’s compactor and lifter mechanisms are stopped.
CrewSense AI is the only operational behaviour system fully integrated with Dennis Eagle’s Olympus body range. Designed by the business’ engineers, it is now available on new RCVs equipped with Terberg OmniDel and OmniDeka bin lifts.
“CrewSense AI provides an additional layer of awareness at the rear of our vehicles, supporting crews to address at-risk behaviour to help reduce incidents,” said Simon McCulloch, technical sales manager at Dennis Eagle. “Developed by our specialist engineering team, the fully integrated solution provides a reliable, intuitive experience that enhances daily operations and gives greater confidence to crews.”
For fleet operators, CrewSense AI can even capture data via the company’s Terberg Connect diagnostics tool, enabling accurate incident reporting and supporting fleet reviews. Demonstrations of the system will be available in the coming months.
