South coast logistics and driver training provider 2 Start Ltd has issued guidance around recent developments in the transport training sector, and the variety of courses it can offer for commercial vehicle drivers and operators.

The company provides an extensive range of training options, including rigid and articulated HGV and minibus driver training, as well as online and classroom-based Driver CPC, ADR and Transport Manager CPC training.

It has depots located in Southampton, Portsmouth, Reading and Worthing, covering the Hampshire, Berkshire, and West Sussex regions.

“Good transport training will provide a solid foundation covering, health and safety, secure loads, along with other topics like vehicle checks and maintenance – it’s not all just ‘get in and drive’,” said the company.

Whether carrying passengers or cargo, including hazardous substances, each category requires a unique, niche set of certifications and skills, the firm points out.

“Transport training is so important because it can be the difference between hurting yourself and others around you,” said 2 Start, emphasising the duty of care to drivers, the public and other road users, as well as the reputational benefits of training to employers.

“Another reason that transport training is important is that it can help open a multitude of doors and opportunities for those looking to progress or start a new career.

“Holding the relevant certifications will show employers that you are qualified and take your job seriously, increasing your chances of being hired.”

On HGV driver training, it advised: “Since November 2021, if you already hold a Category B car licence, you can now fast-track and train to drive a fully articulated lorry straight from having driven a car.

“As a responsible training provider, we have put certain measures in place to mitigate some of the concerns this initially raised by ensuring the students all receive ample training prior to testing.

“However, we have already seen several our students all successfully go from a car to a C+E articulated lorry with great success.”

The company’s Driver CPC options include Module 2 and 4 initial training, as well as the 35 hours’ periodic training required every five years – while it also offers ADR training for those moving dangerous and potentially hazardous goods by road, covering nine different substance classes in multiple or single-class options.

“ADR is strictly regulated and includes most European countries, all having their own specific safety measures that need to be followed when transporting within that country,” said the company.

2 Start also emphasised the current benefits of joining the transport sector.

“Now is a fantastic time to consider transport training no matter what you are looking to dive into… from our local couriers and freight companies right through to the more specialist areas,” it said.

“If you are considering transport training courses and would like to discuss your options and the training path for your desired career path, our team of friendly advisors are just a phone call away.”

To celebrate the recent Platinum Jubilee, the company also recently revealed its newest articulated driver training truck dedicated to the Queen (pictured), featuring a timeline of her reign so far.
