Cutting alcohol risk with AddSecure
Safety technology provider AddSecure has warned of the significant impact of drink-driving on the commercial vehicle sector, despite conscientious fleet managers’ efforts to raise awareness through training programmes.
“In the numbers released by the Department for Transport, we see that there has been almost no change in the number of people dying from accidents involving drink driving for the past nine years,” said Joshua Webb, enterprise sales manager for AddSecure.
“In 2019 there were an estimated 7,800 people killed or injured when at least one driver was over the drink drive limit, and this was the lowest on record.”
He continued: “When it comes to the commercial vehicle sector, In the last three years there has been an increase of 59 per cent in alcohol-related bans.
“With road safety charities and commercial fleet insurance companies campaigning to the government to be tougher on drink drivers, it’s clear that we need to take our own steps forward in preventing drink driving before the introduction of mandatory schemes that we have seen take place in France, Sweden, and many other countries around Europe.”
