Transitioning to electric vehicles is the most viable option to decarbonise fleets, says Renault Trucks

To achieve a sustainable zero-emission commercial vehicle sector by 2050, it is crucial that we start taking action now.

In order to address the urgent issue of climate change and enhance air quality in urban areas, the transport industry must transition from fossil fuels to cleaner and more sustainable alternatives.

Today, switching to electric is the most viable option to decarbonise commercial vehicle fleets because the technology is available now and it is advancing quickly.

The new normal

Across the country, electric vehicles are becoming the norm for cleaner, quieter transport and logistics, particularly for urban and semi-regional applications, including waste recycling and construction.

Offering its fully-electric E-Tech range, from 3.1 tonne to 44 tonne, Renault Trucks vehicles are already operating across Europe and here in the UK with prominent customers such as Warburtons, Tesco, and Suez.

Wherever customers are on their decarbonisation journey, Renault Trucks is available to provide planning and assistance.

Consultative approach

Once pioneers, Renault Trucks are now experts in electric mobility, offering a consultative approach to help customers transition to a decarbonised transport future. Vehicle specifications are customised to meet operators’ specific requirements, with energy and infrastructure provision factored in.

Renault Trucks’ engineering team analyse routing data to assess vehicle energy consumption and create a tailored specification, including battery capacity, for each application.

To help customers make the switch to electric, Renault Trucks collaborates with operators and introduces third-party experts at appropriate stages. At every Renault Trucks dealer in the UK, our fully trained Energy Transition Specialists (ETS) are on hand to support customers throughout the entire process of switching to electric.

Vehicle specification

After discussing decarbonisation objectives with operators, we evaluate their operations to identify which tasks can be completed with an electric vehicle. We then specify a vehicle that is suitable for their application and introduce charging partners who assess on-site energy availability for charging the first and subsequent electric vehicles. We recommend charging solutions that meet the immediate and long-term operational needs of the customer after the assessment.

Our electric vehicle demonstrator fleet is available for customer trials across various applications to provide customers with hands-on experience with the technology. We also collaborate with several bodybuilders to ensure that the transition to building on an electric chassis is as seamless as possible.

We offer contract hire options through Renault Trucks Financial Services, and our E-Tech D models come with a battery promise of up to 10 years (minimum 3 years warranty, extendable to 5 years), while our E-Tech Master models come with an 8-year warranty or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Finally, after the vehicle is built and delivered, we offer training and fleet monitoring through our Renault Trucks OptiFleet telematics system, with regular follow-ups to ensure everything runs smoothly.
