Identifying driver trends with MiX Vision

MiX Telematics has explained how its solutions can help fleets to identify and monitor trends that indicate risky driver behaviour.

“As a fleet manager, when using MiX Vision AI, you have innate insight into your drivers’ behaviours, easily identifying unsafe practices and trends,” said the company.

It highlights various risky behaviours that trigger the automatic initiation of a video recording by MiX Vision AI, which is then uploaded to the system: driver fatigue (yawning and closed eyes), distraction, phone use while driving, seatbelt issues, and smoking. Footage from both before and after the event occurs is captured.

These behaviours can then be monitored in three ways via MiX Fleet Manager. Firstly, real-time live alerts enable the driver to self-correct before an incident occurs, preventing dangerous situations from escalating.

“For example, multiple yawning alerts may indicate the risk of the driver closing their eyes – a high-risk event,” said the company.

“This allows you to take proactive measures, such as contacting the driver to make them aware and prompting them to rest. After addressing the immediate concern, you can assess the situation and evaluate potential underlying factors, including medical issues or workload affecting driver fatigue.”

Managers can also use the MiX Vision AI video gallery, which streamlines the process of reviewing video data. Users can easily filter and search for specific videos for closer examination, says the company, thus facilitating the detection of patterns in driving behaviour and aiding in the prevention of future incidents.

Thirdly, fleet data can be accessed in a Dashboard, said to be easy to use and to offer valuable insights into risky events, arming users with the information to take proactive steps to prevent further unsafe driving.

These measures enable users to reach swift decisions to reduce high-risk events, says MiX, ultimately leading to improved efficiency, safety and lower operational costs.
