Garmin International has launched a new navigator designed specifically for trucks, in the form of the dēzl 580 LMT-D – with features including easy break planning, built-in Wi-Fi for seamless updates and free lifetime digital traffic data.

Expected to be available from September, the rugged dēzl 580 LMT-D features a 5.0-inch display, customisable truck routing for the size, weight and load of a truck, plus all the truck-specific navigation features found throughout the Garmin dēzl product line – like warnings for upcoming bridge heights and steep grades.

The easy break planning function, which considers hours driven and mandatory breaks, includes timely notifications with suggestions for upcoming truck stops, weigh stations, rest areas, and more.

The new Dispatch and Track entry-level truck monitoring solution allows business owners and dispatchers to send text messages and addresses to their drivers with the option to track their routes to completion.

Thiemo Weinschenk, senior product manager, consumer automotive EMEA, said: “Not only does the dēzl 580 LMT-D take the guesswork out of break planning, but it also provides small businesses with a new and easy to use Dispatch and Track functionality.

“One of the features we’re most excited about is the dēzl 580’s built-in Wi-Fi, so truck drivers can easily update maps and software with a touch of a button and avoid having to use a computer.”

The dēzl 580 LMT-D includes a range of features deisgned to help truck drivers navigate efficiently. Junction views and lane guidance help to navigate complex interchanges, while a route shaping feature lets truckers alter routes to include preferred roads or cities by using the touchscreen. A truck profiles function allows users to quickly switch between trailer sizes with the touch of a button.

TripAdvisor data gives drivers access to ratings for popular travel points such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions, while voice-activated navigation lets truckers control the navigator with their voice while their hands remain on the steering wheel. Spoken Garmin Real Directions add useful navigational cues with recognisable landmarks, buildings, and traffic lights to easily guide truck drivers to their destination.

Preloaded with maps of Europe, the dēzl 580 LMT-D offers free lifetime map updates. The navigation device is compatible with the Garmin BC 30 wireless backup camera, so drivers can see what is happening behind the truck when in reverse.
