GeoCisa meets emission standards with Eminox CRT

Engineering specialist GeoCisa has upgraded two of its Liebherr HS 855 HD mobile cranes with an Eminox Continuously Regenerating Trap (CRT) system, in order to meet stringent London emission standards.

It has been estimated by the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory that in 2013, non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) on construction sites were responsible for seven per cent of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions, eight per cent of Particulate Matter (PM) 10 and 14 per cent of PM2.5 in Greater London alone.

Prior to being upgraded, the engines had Stage II level emissions, however the latest policy requires Stage IV non-road emission standards or best available technology.

Using CRT technology has allowed these vehicles to virtually eliminate PM, including the ultra-fine PM2.5, as well as significantly reducing hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide (CO).

With a CRT system, the equipment can now be used in the London low emission zone (LEZ) and meets NRMM LEZ requirements, which came into force in September 2015.

GeoCisa chose to use Eminox after hearing about the company through word of mouth.

Ana Claros, technical office for GeoCisa yard, said: “We were impressed by the knowledge Eminox staff had when we initially contacted them about our situation.

“We had plans for a job in London but our machines were in the yard in Spain and we had to arrange a technician to visit our yard so that they would be able to take necessaries measurements.

“After that Eminox started to fit the equipment. GeoCisa has been very pleased with the help it has received from both the sales and after sales department.”

Eminox has been supplying exhaust and emission control systems for the non-road market since 1988 and has successfully retrofitted CRT systems to a range of NRMM, including cranes, dumper trucks, excavators, concrete pumps, piling rigs and wheel loaders.

For an investment as low as £5,000 per machine, the Eminox mobile fitters can install systems on customer sites in as little as one day, keeping down-time for construction contractors to a minimum.

The Eminox CRT retrofit system is VERT certified and approved by the Energy Savings Trust (EST) for NRMM. It is renowned for being a robust, reliable system.

Eminox can supply spare filters so that machinery can continue to be used while the original filter is being cleaned. The filters are designed to be easily accessible and can be removed for cleaning at required intervals, depending on the level of use and type of machine.
