VWS outlines wireless weighing advantages

Onboard weighing systems provider Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) has recently launched its own Wi-Fi Weighing product, providing a Wi-Fi enabled version of the Loadweigh For Tippers weighing system.

The company says its Wi-Fi Weighing solution can strengthen business performance, maximise profit and simplify operational processes. The new, app-based system provides live transactional weight data to either a mobile phone or tablet.

“The data is more accessible to both the driver and the business, encouraging proactive management of compliance and identifying potential profitability gains,” explained Trevor Evans, operations director at VWS.

“In addition to this, the system has been developed to provide businesses the ability to integrate the weighing data into their existing business systems.”

He continued: “The Wi-Fi weighing system has been developed with the user experience and installation engineer experience in mind.

“The Wi-Fi Indicator doesn’t need to be installed inside the vehicle, as traditional weighing equipment typically does, so this massively simplifies the installation process.

“Because live weighing and load data is now accessible wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet via the VWS Live app, this means that operators and business owners can view real-time operational data from any location.

“The data is also now visible from outside the cab which allows operations to run far more smoothly than before, because shovel loaders, drivers and even operators all have access to the same information.”

Trevor identifies three key benefits that VWS believes are imperative to any tipper fleet.

“The first – and this is something that both we and customers who already have the system installed are incredibly excited about – is optimum yield loading transactions,” he said.

“Whilst running an overloaded vehicle is a criminal offence, often resulting in fixed penalties and posing damage to a business’s reputation, running an underloaded vehicle can be extremely uneconomical. By not fully utilising the entire carrying capacity of a vehicle, fleet managers run the risk of operating an unprofitable round.

“Running at optimum yield means that the load weight is higher than the minimum target weight, but in order to prevent overloading, it is not greater than the gross vehicle weight, allowing for a fully maximised load that increases both productivity and revenue.

“Secondly, the system provides real-time transactions of loading and unloading activity, supplying both operators and drivers with weight data to any chosen location. But it also highlights live vehicle movements via VWS Live, which allows operators full visibility of what is going on and where.

“Integration with a back-office system provides for a totally joined up solution, increasing overall efficiency.

“Last but not least, by designing this system as an app-based solution, it is an extremely cost-efficient and time saving solution, providing any personnel the ability to access weight data via either a mobile phone or tablet.

“Physical tickets are replaced with a new, digitalised system where the driver, at the click of a button, can virtually send a PDF receipt to the required customer complete with weight data. Another benefit of an app-based system is that there is no in-cab display to fit, simplifying and speeding up the installation process.

“We believe that this has truly modernised the weighing industry.”

If a potential customer is interested in the system but has non-VWS on-board weighing equipment installed on their vehicles, adds Trevor, they can still use the VWS wireless weighing system, as the Wi-Fi Indicator has been designed to be compatible with all weighing systems regardless of supplier.

The Wi-Fi Indicator is also continuously monitoring the system and sends remote diagnostics back to the VWS Live portal to maintain the system’s overall health.

“Another great feature is that geofenced areas can be created, which allow our users to identify customer areas or locations that they want to view load activity for,” Trevor added.

“This will also display vehicles entering or leaving site and if they leave a designated route.”

VWS Live is a secure, online portal that the company developed to provide live transactional weight data to its customers, with the aim of making the visibility of data more accessible for them.

“Unlike more traditional or manual methods of data capture, VWS Live is a modern and efficient system that no longer relies on methods such as printing tickets or downloading data to a memory card and then physically retrieving it – so it’s both cost efficient and environmentally friendly as it’s a completely paperless system,” said Trevor.

“Both axle weighbridge and ANPR can be seamlessly integrated with VWS Live.”

VWS says it is working towards enabling wireless connectivity across its complete product range, and also highlights its 36-month parts warranty which can be extended to the full life of the vehicle.
