V-Tech: save time and money on brake tests

Garage equipment provider V-Tech has emphasised the potential benefits for fleets of investing in in brake testing equipment – including reduced downtime, wastage and costs, as well as enabling more regular testing intervals.

“Commercial fleet owners tend to spend thousands of pounds by ensuring that their commercial fleets undergo frequent and necessary brake tests,” said the company.

“However, having this done externally means that vehicles are off the road for longer, which means valuable business time is being lost, and a huge amount of money is being spent. Investing in your own brake testing equipment will allow you to change this.”

The company supplies equipment from the BM brake testing range, including the BM20200 commercial mobile brake tester, said to be an Ideal solution for commercial fleets. The on-ground brake tester is designed for light and heavy vehicles with axle loads up to 20,000 kg, with integrated load simulation.

The equipment comprises an integral motorised gearbox, two main rollers, and a spring-loaded sensor roller, all placed in a galvanised frame.

Claimed benefits include full DVSA approval and compliance with ISO 21069, robustness and longevity, high-quality steel manufacturing, intelligent mobile design to minimise storage space, and easy-to-use BM FlexCheck software. The unit can be moved around easily when needed.

No civil works are required, says V-Tech, and the system allows one-man operation from behind the wheel, with control via Android tablet. Reversible and bi-directional as standard, the equipment includes full DVSA database with DTP numbers. Up to three displays can be connected including Android tablet, PC monitor and widescreen TV.

V-Tech also provides full installation and on-site training.

“Many large commercial fleet companies have invested in this brake tester model including Biffa, the company that has been at the forefront of the UK’s waste industry for over a hundred years,” said V-Tech.

“With the V-Tech Commercial Mobile BM20200 Brake Tester, Biffa are now able to carry out their own brake testing in house and avoid spending unnecessary money, and their vehicles being off the road.”

The BM20200 brake testing unit has also been installed for Network Rail at its Shettleston Rail Plant Depot in Glasgow. It is using V-Tech’s BM20200 commercial mobile brake tester to carry out brake testing on its fleet of Unimog Road Railers,

David McCallum, Network Rail engineer, said: “MOT Testing had been taking up a lot of valuable business time for us at Network Rail. We were paying external MOT test stations to carry out the appropriate testing, which meant that our vehicles were off the road for at least three days.

“It made complete business sense to invest in our own brake testing unit so we could perform brake testing in-house to save not only time, but money too.”

He continued: “It was one of our Network Rail Supervisors that recommended V-Tech.

“We visited another V-Tech customer to test the equipment and seeing the equipment in full action, and seeing how knowledgeable the team are was one of the main reasons why we chose V-Tech – as well as the fact that this unit was mobile which was ideal for us, as we didn’t want the equipment to take up too much space as we didn’t have the room to have a designated area for brake testing.

“I would definitely recommend V-Tech, our overall experience has been very good, and delivery was on time as promised.”
