UK Fuels has provided its take on how fuel card services can help fleets control costs against a backdrop of fuel price volatility.

“While fuel cards are not a new phenomenon for transport businesses, during this tumultuous financial time in which fuel prices are predicted to rise once more, they offer real benefits to businesses in managing spiralling costs,” commented Jonathan Haseler, managing director at UK Fuels.

“Fuel cards provide transport operators with an easy and clear way to manage finances around fuel costs – they not only offer savings on fuel purchased but allow operators to set alerts based on usage patterns and provide one clear statement at the end of the month, keeping admin time down.”

UK Fuels is part of Radius, which Jonathan explains has a long history in helping businesses save money through fuel cards.

“Our Fuel division is where the company started over 32 years ago selling diesel to trucking customers under the UK Fuels brand, which remains a strong name in the haulage industry to this day,” he said.

“The business now spans 18 countries and is one of the largest resellers for many of the world’s major oil companies, as well as having an extensive own brand network throughout the UK and Europe.

He continued: “Keeping track of spend and making administration more efficient are key benefits for businesses when using fuel cards which is why we offer an online account management system called Radius Velocity, which comes as standard to all our fuel card customers.

“The best in class platform makes managing multiple fuel cards and corporate charge cards easy, giving businesses the tools needed to efficiently run a fleet, reducing the administrative burden, saving precious time and costs.

“With the recent rise in fuel prices and the current economic climate it is more important than ever for businesses to be able to monitor the way fuel is used by individual drivers as well as the entire fleet.

“Radius Velocity’s simple fuel efficiency reports calculate the MPG of all vehicles across a fleet, making it easy to pinpoint any vehicle inefficiencies and work with any drivers who may need training in more effective driving practices.”

Radius Velocity also allows businesses to stop lost or stolen cards online at any time, day or night, even from the smartphone app, he adds, reducing the risk of fuel theft.

Radius Velocity is also set up to work seamlessly with Radius Telematics, providing transport operators and fleet managers the facility to monitor vehicle and driver data.

“When this is combined with a fuel card, it provides a holistic view of the fleet, including accurate MPG data to help keep businesses in control of their finances,” said Jonathan.

“In addition to Radius Velocity, our E-route app shows every fuel station in the UK that accepts our fuel cards. The app is available to all UK Fuels customers for free, making it easy for them to find their nearest fuel station.

“With the ability to select a start and destination point, it can highlight all fuel sites between two locations and show real-time traffic congestion levels. This makes it easy for fleet drivers to plan fuel stops into their journeys, helping them save time and money on wasted mileage driving to find a fuel station.”
