Fleetclear Connect turns up heat on telematics

Fleet technology and software solutions company Fleetclear has detailed the latest functionality to be added to its Fleetclear Connect system, which is said to offer a powerful management solution for all aspects of vehicle and driver safety.

A web-based fleet management software system suitable for all vehicle types, Fleetclear Connect combines vehicle safety technology with tracking and telematics to help boost productivity and reduce operational costs.

The latest update (v1.4) of the system has just been released, with additional telematics features including a new remote tachograph download service and unique ‘heat mapping’ functionality.

Users of Fleetclear Connect include south-west commercial waste management and recycling company, DCW, which has also adopted live camera recording systems.

“It was important for us to have tachograph information integrated into the system and Fleetclear Connect didn’t include this element at the time,” said Richard Smith, commercial waste operations manager at DCW.

“However, once we mentioned it, they had no hesitation in developing and building this into the system as a feature. They threw all their resources at it. We like their collaborative, partnership way of working. They recognise that different businesses have different needs; it isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach.”

As a result, DCW now has one system with all information available to view on a single customisable dashboard.

Not only can the operator track vehicles live and view telematics information, but it can also identify individual drivers and monitor different aspects of driver and vehicle performance, throughout every moment of operation. Data on acceleration, cornering, harsh braking, fuel efficiency, geofencing and routing are all features of Fleetclear Connect that DCW is looking to use in the next phase of integration.

Richard added: “Fleetclear Connect is a powerful tool for fleet operators. We don’t want the hassle of using multiple systems; we want to go to one place and access all the information we need, immediately.

“If there is a potential incident we need to know when and where it happened, so that we can take appropriate action. With Fleetclear Connect we can create driver records and scores and send relevant information to managers to feed into training plans.”

Chris Waller, chief technical officer at Fleetclear, added: “We have always worked in collaboration with our customers and when DCW needed tachograph information incorporated into the Fleetclear Connect system we got our development team involved.

“Tachograph data can now be downloaded remotely within Fleetclear Connect, which means our customers no longer need to retrieve the files manually from vehicles, saving both time and the potential for error. We can integrate the downloaded information with any third-party tachograph analysis provider.”

Meanwhile, the heat mapping feature in Fleetclear Connect allows fleet managers to adopt a more proactive approach to safety, says the software provider.

Chris explained: “The way our heat mapping works is unique. Users can view a heat map for any safety equipment, on any vehicle or multiple vehicles, and at specific times of day or drivers.

“The result is a comprehensive picture of vehicle operational safety, highlighting specific safety hot spots – i.e. cyclist detections, rollaways, or speeding events. It is particularly useful for monitoring risk-associated events like reverse manoeuvres.

“Fleet managers can drill down to specific events, find an exact point, and share a video of it. It’s a powerful user journey and a proactive approach to safety through constant monitoring. Ultimately routes can be adjusted to reduce the risk of incidents occurring.”
