Fuel-efficient driving in focus with Trimble

Trimble has explained how a focus on fuel-efficient driving can save hundreds of pounds in fuel each year, as well as improving road safety and preventing vehicle wear.

Fuel takes a substantial chunk out of the budget of every transport company, points out Trimble, representing about a quarter of all costs on average.

“If you don’t seem to be getting the overall gas mileage you desire, there could be several reasons why. While it could be a mechanical issue, it could also be your drivers’ driving habits…

“By analysing telematics and additional data, companies can closely monitor driving behaviour and fuel consumption. In consultation with Trimble experts, fleets can decide which Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) should be analysed and focused on; and the handy dashboard in Trimble’s Performance Portal simplifies complex data and shows the results of KPIs such as cruise control, idling, speed, braking behaviour, and more.

“The analysis of those key metrics can be used immediately to motivate drivers to optimise their driving styles while encouraging safe driving habits, enhancing performance, and lowering fuel consumption, making your fleet more cost-effective. “

Trimble also offers a Coach Assistant, which enables drivers to be coached in a more targeted manner. If the results indicate that coaching is needed, the Coach Assistant suggests the specific behaviours that need to be addressed. Driving coaches can use these insights to prepare coaching sessions, and to determine if and how driving behaviour has improved.

“With Trimble’s Coach Assistant, every driver coach has all the information they need to really impact driver performance,” said Giovanni Cacciola, product manager at Trimble Transportation.

“The module studies the actual driving behaviours, and after analysing the results, shows what the driver can do to improve their performance. Driving coaches can use those suggestions to motivate, inform and correct drivers. Implementing the suggestions leads to lower fuel costs, safer driving behaviour, and reduced wear and tear on the trucks.”

An Onboard Driver Scorecard is also available, which allows drivers to compare their performance with their colleagues’.
