EBPMS: a brake from the norm
Axscend, the company behind the TrailerMaster telematics platform, has explained the workings of its electronic brake performance monitoring system, EBPMS, and the benefits for transport operators.
“For fleet operators, ensuring the brakes on all their assets are well maintained is critical to maintaining safety and compliance,” said Axscend.
“For many years, the method used by the transport industry to check this has been roller brake testing (RBT). Although a necessary test, the time, cost and practicalities of getting a whole fleet roller brake tested several times a year has caused operators a great deal of stress, time and money. EBPMS offers a better option.
“EBPMS by Axscend captures the braking performance data from a trailer’s EBS and gives it a ‘braking performance value’ which equates to a pass or fail. EBPMS monitors and records every brake event as it happens. This data is adjusted to account for variables such as road angle and bogie weight. The resulting data is plotted in an easy-to-read graph against the DVSA pass mark.
“EBPMS brake performance reports are produced and can be viewed on the TrailerMaster web portal or app at any time. Used as part of a trailer’s service inspection record, these reports are evidence of a trailer’s brake performance and help to ensure fleet operators remain compliant.
“Alerts and notifications are sent advising users of any trailers with underperforming brakes. This ensures the most appropriate actions can be taken to correct and resolve any brake issues, ensuring safety and compliance.’’
Axscend holds the trademark and patent for EBPMS since developing it in 2015. EBPMS has been included in the DVSA’s Guide to Roadworthiness, which was written in association with Axscend.
